Thank you for your interest in volunteering your valuable time to support us in our quest to save lives…one breath at a time.
As you know, three times a year, we volunteer our time and expertise to Amana Regional Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Africa). We teach the Helping Babies Breathe program, distribute the donations we have collected and provide assistance wherever we can.
Our team usually consists of:
1 Midwife/Nurse, 1 Doctor (Obstetrician) and 1 Student (Midwife/Nurse/Pre-med)
As much as we’d love to, we unfortunately we can’t take anymore volunteers with us at the moment, due to the specific training and support such a trip requires.
If you’d like to volunteer your time please visit Work the World who can assist with the process of placements across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
There are many courses you can do to prepare yourself for volunteer work in third world countries.
As a start we recommend:
The Lancet Maternal Health Series: Global Research and Evidence
There are many other ways you can lend a hand whether it’s knitting beanies or donating money. It all counts.
To find out more, please see the Get Involved section of our website.
From the Antenatal Unit, the Labour ward, the Post-Operative Ward to the Neonatal Unit, there is so much that encompasses the nine month journey from conception to birth and home again and the Amana Hospital in Tanzania plays a huge role in the care of both mother and baby. The Hospital does its best to provide ongoing care but without specific equipment they are not able to give the kind of care they desperately want. By providing the hospital with help in the maternity units whether it is soap for staff to wash their hands or a surgical gurney, it will make a difference.
So if you have access to medical supplies or know anyone that does, we’d love your help.
We greatly appreciate any of the items on the Medical Donation Checklist
**Please note that we cannot accept out of date medications.
If you have products or equipment to donate that are not on the list, please send us an email with a description of your items and we will advise you as soon as possible.
Please print the delivery instructions link below so we can ensure your kind donations are well received and distributed where they are needed most.

Knitted beanies for the babies, as well as booties, blankets and baby cocoons, help keep babies warm immediately after birth. This is particularly important to babies who are underweight, premature or who have had a difficult birth. If you would like to contribute, or have a knitting group that would be interested in contributing please read on for some great tips.
